چکیده

information patterns giving low weight words for the first The turbo decoding is a sub-optimal decoding, i.e. it is not a maximum likelihood decoding. It is important to be aware of this fact when the parameters for the scheme are chosen. This goes especially for the selection of component codes, where the selection often has been based solely on the performance at high SNR’s. We will show that it is important to base the choice on the performance at low SNR’s, i.e. the convergence properties, as well. Further, the study of the performance with different component codes may lead to an understanding of the convergence process in the turbo decoder.

However, we will argue that the selection mainly should be based on the performance at low SNR’s, i.e. the convergence properties. Further, we will present a way to construct interleavers that significantly improve the performance of the tur...

An approach to fault detection and correction in design of systems using of Turbo ‎codes‎

We present an approach to design of fault tolerant computing systems. In this paper, a technique is employed that enable the combination of several codes, in order to obtain flexibility in the design of error correcting codes. Code combining techniques are very effective, which one of these codes are turbo codes. The Algorithm-based fault tolerance techniques that to detect errors rely on the c...

Design of “Multiple–Turbo–Codes” with Transfer Characteristics of Component Codes

For the construction of low rate turbo– codes, the concept of multiple parallel concatenated codes, i.e. the “multiple–turbo–code” has been successfully employed e.g. in [13, 16]. Analysis of this structure has been done via simulations [16] or the analysis of equivalent coding schemes [13]. In this paper we extend the method of EXIT charts [5], that has been applied to multiple–turbo–codes con...

On the Asymptotic Convergence Properties of Turbo Codes

In this paper we present an analysis of the convergence properties of turbo codes at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We introduce a simple nonlinear model based on the weight enumerator of the constituent codes to describe the iterates of the bit-error-rate (BER). Then, we characterize the dynamics of the decoder on the binary-input Gaussian channel in terms of fixed points along with the ass...

Designing a Sensible Block Semi-Random Interleaver for Turbo Codes

It is highly known that an interleaver (a device that scrambles the order of a sequence of numbers) is a key component of a turbo encoder to guarantee excellent bit error rate and frame error rate performances. Turbo codes were initially proposed using a randomly constructed interleaver. Turbo codes are a rank of high-performance forward error correction (FEC) codes, which were the initial prac...
